What Are Company Groups?
Think of Company Groups as a simple way to bundle multiple individual companies together based on something they have in common.
A perfect example from the video is creating a "Europe" group and a "Non-Europe" group. You could also group companies by:
-
Business unit (e.g., "Retail," "Manufacturing," "Logistics")
-
Legal status (e.g., "Internal," "Joint Venture," "Subsidiary")
-
Risk level (e.g., "High-Risk," "Low-Risk")
By creating these logical groups, you can apply a single rule or permission to "all European companies" at once, rather than having to select each individual company in Germany, France, and the Netherlands one by one.
How to Set Up Company Groups
Setting up your groups is quick. Let's walk through the example from the video.
Step 1: Navigate and Create Your Group
-
From the main dashboard, go to the Authorization Framework module on the left-hand menu.
-
Click on Company Groups.
-
Click the New button to create your first group.
-
In the
Company group namefield, type in a descriptive name, like "Europe". -
Add a description in the
Detailsfield, such as "European companies." -
Click Save & Close.
Step 2: Add Companies to Your Group
-
After saving, your new group's page will appear. In the "Companies" section, click New.
-
A window will pop up allowing you to select from your list of available companies.
-
Select all the companies that belong in this group (e.g., CRONUS BE, CRONUS DE, CRONUS FR, CRONUS NL).
-
Click Save & Close.
Step 3: Repeat for Other Groups
You can repeat this process for any other logical group you need. In the video, we also create a "Non-Europe" group and assign the relevant international companies to it (e.g., CRONUS BRA, CRONUS International Ltd., CRONUS MY).
Two Ways to Use Company Groups
Now that you have your groups, where can you use them? Here are the two practical applications shown in the video.
1. Scoping Authorization Requests
A common use is for granting permissions. Imagine you need to give a new user an "Organization Role," but that role should only apply to your European companies.
-
Before: You would have to add the role multiple times, once for each company.
-
With Company Groups: You simply create one request. On the "Add Organization Role" screen, you can now select "Europe" from the "Company Group" dropdown. The permission is automatically and correctly scoped to only the companies in that group.
2. Automating with Pre and Post Actions
You can also use Company Groups to automate tasks in your templates.
Let's say you have a template action (like "Delete record" or "Insert/Change") that you only want to run for companies outside of Europe.
In your template's Pre and Post Actions, you can set the action's Execute per field to specific company/company group. By selecting your "Non-Europe" group, you ensure this automated action only triggers for the exact companies you've specified, saving time and preventing errors.
Company Groups are a useful feature for organizations managing multiple entities. They save you from repetitive tasks, cut down on errors, and make your authorization rules easier to manage.
